AKC Hunting Events

To earn titles on your dog like Junior Hunter (JH), Senior Hunter (SH), and Master Hunter (MH) you must earn so many legs in each level to earn the title.  When you qualify at an event in the level you enter, your dog earns a leg in that level.  The purpose of these event is for the dog to prove his ability of hunting for which he was breed for.  He must find a bird and point the bird for junior level.  In the senior and master level he must retrieve and as we call it "back another dog".  To learn more about this go to the AKC website to see the rules.

Field Trial Events

This is like the Hunt Test but there can only be one winner in each stake, which earns points.  To earn the title Field Champion (FC) or Amature Field Champion (AFC) you must earn a total of 10 points.   To see the break down of the rules go to the AKC website.  There is an age restriction for some stakes.

Conformation

For your dog to become a champion he must have a total of 15 points, two of those must be a major.  What is a major?  It is a 3, 4, or 5 point win at a show.  The major depends on where you are and how many dogs are there to compete that day.  Example:  8 dogs competing will equal 3 points in Texas, the winning dog gets 3 points. The next day there is 12 dogs that will equal 4 point for the winning dog.  Check your show catalog for the point system for where you are at and your breed.  Here is how a typical total point will rack up when your dog wins:

1 point, 1point, 3point, 1point, 1point, 5 point, 1point, 1 point, 1 point = 15 points total

This is confusing for beginners.  AKC will have more rules and explantion about Conformation shows.
